The Kama

The Kama handle is usually made of wood with the blade made of steel.  The traditional use of the Kama was a rice harvesting implement or cutting grass.  The Kama was used either as a single or in pairs, one in each hand for close range combat.  It could be employed to slash, hook, rake, chop, slice, deflect or block.

 

The parts of the Kama

1. Soko– the butt end of the handle
2. Moto – Handle center
3. Monouchi – Blade
4. Saki – Blade tip
5. Kagashira - The top end of the handle protrudung above the blade
6. Kashira - The head of the handle
7. Himo - The rope at the base
