The Eku

The Eku was made of wood about 6 foot in length.  The traditional use was developed by fisherman to use on land or at sea.  The side of the Eku can be used in cutting.  As a weapon the Eku was used against the sword, it was very effective because of the distance they were able to get.  Often times it was used to kick sand in the eyes of the opponent by placing the end of the Eku in the sand and kicking it.

The parts of the Eku

1. Ushiro tsukagashira – Eku butt
2. Yoko – Eku blade side
3. Monouchi – Blade
4. Moto– Eku center
