RESPECT
The Inner Gate
Every man, woman, and child who steps into a martial art school and accepts the all white garb and role of the novice inevitably confronts the “inner gates” of training.
Respect for ones’ self and for ones’ teacher are the first gates one must pass through before true learning begins. Respect is the building block of trust. Where there is trust, there is open communication followed by a natural flow of knowledge back and forth between teacher and student. This interaction is needed for any student to advance in his art.
Without respect, both teacher and student are like two people on opposite sides of a fence, even though they stand face to face.
